URSUS - 2004
Ursus
is the name of our proprietary blend consisting of Merlot, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petite Verdot. As always
all of the grapes used to produce the blend are grown on the
Berthoud estate. Ursus is the Latin word for Bear, while Berthoud
is pronounced Bear-2. Just like the bear, Ursus is a muscular
wine while maintaining an elegant balance. It is an old world
style wine that is best enjoyed with a meal.

SYRAH
- 2004
At Berthoud Winery we also produce a tiny bit of Syrah - only
three barrels for about 74 cases annually. Our Syrah is a truly
artisanal wine with red and dark berry flavors but is not over
extracted. It is well balanced with exceptionally well integrated
oak. This wine begs for food and is a real pleasure.

CHASSELAS
DORÉ – 2008 (pronounced Shasslah Doh-ray)
Chasselas is the most common white grape grown in Switzerland
but is virtually unknown in the United States. After discovering
a small quantity growing on the Pagani Ranch – planted
in 1904 - we contracted to purchase the entire block (a whopping
2 tons). Having the opportunity to produce a wine that we enjoyed
so much but were unable to find was extremely exciting. The
Berthoud Chasselas Doré is made to emulate the best wines
of Switzerland, clean, crisp, low in alcohol (only 12%), and
just an ever so slight hint of effervescence. It has a completely
unique flavor that must be experienced to appreciate. Our Chasselas
Doré is fermented in stainless steel and malo-lactic
fermentation is inhibited to preserve its crispness and freshness.
A natural accompaniment to fondue, or virtually any cheese.
Chasselas Doré is also at home with seafood or simply
for summer sipping on the porch.
