IN THE WINERY In the winery the 1999 wines are
evolving wonderfully. They will be racked once
more before bottling in late July and released in November. The 2000 vintage
has completed malolactic fermentation, been racked off the lees and aerated.
Once the 1999 wines have been bottled, the barrels containing the 2000 wines
will be emptied and refilled in a stack making room for the 2001 vintage
in our little barn.
IN THE VINEYARD
Currently in the vineyards at Berthoud Winery much
work is being done tending the vines in preparation for the 2001 harvest.
As of this writing, the vines are in full bloom. Unwanted shoots are being
removed to allow the vines to put all of their energy into ripening the grapes
and to promote maximum exposure of light, heat and air. We were lucky enough
to escape any frost damage and are looking forward to a good season, should
Mother Nature choose to cooperate.
